GETTING YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE
If you are getting married in New Hampshire.......
Both of you should go to the town clerk's office to apply for your marriage license. It is advisable to apply not less than a month before the wedding. (Remember that many rural town clerks have limited office hours, so they may not be available every day.) The license is valid for 90 days from issuance. You may need to bring:
You do not need a blood test or witnesses. Your marriage can be performed by: A judge, supreme court justice, assistant judge, justice of the peace, priest, rabbi, or minister residing in New Hampshire, or recognized by the State of New Hampshire. If the officiant does not reside in New Hampshire, or is not recognized by the State of New Hampshire, they must file for a special license (for that marriage only) from the Secretary of State in Concord, New Hampshire. You must deliver the license to the officiant before the marriage can be performed. After the ceremony, the officiant will complete the license, sign it, and return it to the town clerk's office within 6 working days of the ceremony so your marriage may be officially registered. You will need a copy of your marriage certificate if you want to change your name legally (ie Social Security, etc). You may request (in person or in writing) a copy from the town clerk 2 or more weeks after the ceremony.
